Muslim and Sikh residents join Sultanpur’s Durga Puja bhandaras
In Sultanpur, Muslim and Sikh residents help run Durga Puja bhandaras and committees, which organisers call the city's shared heritage.
A bhandara was held at Suraj Talkies crossing in Sultanpur, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday, 23 October, during the city’s Durga Puja festival, the fifth year in a row. Youths from different communities also helped serve puri and sabzi near the Sharda Mata pandal at the bus station. Rajdev Shukla of the Central Puja Vyavastha Samiti said Muslim and Sikh residents take part in fair arrangements and bhandaras. Tariq Ahmad kept his shop closed through Navratri out of respect.
