Muslim villagers fund Hindu woman’s cremation in Murshidabad

Young Muslims in Masurdanga raised money from passers-by when a poor Hindu family could not pay for a funeral.

Young Muslim residents of Masurdanga village in Murshidabad district, West Bengal, collected money in 2026 so a Hindu family could cremate Tustusi Das, who died after a long illness. Her family could not afford the cost. The youths asked people passing through the village for help, with each giving Rs 20 to Rs 100, and villagers helped with the cremation. Only two Hindu families live in the village. Her husband, Shasthi Das, said he had no need to worry.
