Hindu families of Uri’s Lagama village stayed through decades of turmoil
Over 350 Hindu and 30 Muslim households near the LoC still share weddings, mourning and even mosque funds.
Residents of Lagama village in Uri, Baramulla district, told Rising Kashmir on 1 November that its Hindu families never migrated during the 1990s. Over 350 Hindu and about 30 Muslim households live across four hamlets with seven temples and a mosque. Shopkeeper Irshad Ahmad opened his store in Hindu-majority Pathang to serve his friends there. Muslim residents recall Hindu neighbours giving money to build the local mosque, and both communities attend each other’s weddings and funerals.
