Kolkata hospital holds daughter’s wedding before brain-dead mother’s organ donation

Ruby General Hospital in Kolkata arranged a wedding on its premises for the daughter of Chumki Roy, 54, after she was declared brain dead following a road accident in late October. Roy, of Haltu, had wished to see her daughter married. Her husband Debabrata Roy and family then donated her liver, both kidneys and corneas. Three patients received the organs and two people may regain sight. Hospital staff formed a guard of honour as she was taken for retrieval.
