Aminur Hossain starts building the Ras Chakra for Cooch Behar’s Ras Utsav
A Muslim craftsman carries on a four-generation family duty of making the wheel for the Madan Mohan temple festival.
Aminur Hossain began making the Ras Chakra for Cooch Behar’s Ras Utsav on Lakshmi Puja day, Sunday, at his home in Harin Chaora on the edge of Cooch Behar town. His Muslim family has built the bamboo and paper wheel for four generations, since the reign of Maharaja Nripendra Narayan. Aminur, who took over after his father Altaf Mian died in 2023, eats only vegetarian food during the month of work. Devotees turn the wheel at the Madan Mohan temple.
