Muslim family still receives Ashtami prasad at Sivasagar’s Devidoul
The Doulla family once played drums at the Ahom-era Durga temple and is still thanked with prasad.
A Muslim family in Sivasagar, Assam, continues to receive Maha Ashtami prasad at the historic Devidoul Durga Puja, ETV Bharat reported in October 2026. The Doulla family, who now live in Dhai-ali, once played the dhak and nagara drums during aarti at the temple, a duty given to them by the Ahom kings. That role has faded, but the prasad is still offered to them in thanks. The puja is described as 293 years old.
